Vivitrol Treatment

Vivitrol is an extended-release once-a-month formulation of naltrexone used to treat alcohol and opioid addiction. Naltrexone is designed to stop the euphoria that alcohol and opioids can cause while reducing cravings.   Vivtrol is not addictive and does not cause withdrawal symptoms. While Naltrexone prevents endorphins from binding opioid receptors in people who consume alcohol, it also blocks opioid drugs from binding to opioid receptors in the brain. This effect makes the treatment more effective, and it prevents relapse.

How does it work?

Vivitrol® is an extended-release naltrexone injection used to support treatment for alcohol and opioid dependence. What Are the Side Effects of Vivitrol?

Vivitrol® injections are generally safe and effective, but some patients may experience side effects. The most common include:

Nausea & Vomiting
Shortly after an injection, mild nausea or vomiting may occur due to the body’s response to the medication or interactions with other drugs. These symptoms usually fade within a few hours or days and often decrease with subsequent injections.

Headache
Headaches are a common side effect and are typically temporary. They may lessen as treatment continues.

Muscle Cramps
Some patients experience muscle cramps or tightness. These are usually temporary and resolve on their own without long-term harm.

Injection Site Reactions
Injection site reactions can range from mild pain or bumps to, in rare cases, blistering or skin lesions. Severe reactions may require medical attention.
